The 2018-2019 Board of Directors
|Roxy Fournier | President
Roxy holds a Bachelor’s degree in Molecular and Cell Biology from the University of Victoria and is currently pursuing a PhD in Cell & Systems Biology at the University of Toronto. Her research involves designing a better ground-based simulated microgravity platform to study cultured cells. Prior to being elected President, she held the position of Project Manager for the first CAN-RGX competition. This year, some of her aspirations for SEDS-Canada include increasing its presence in universities and colleges across Canada (especially those without a current SEDS chapter) and securing long-term partners from industry, government, and academia to ensure the stability of the organization.
|Karine Jarzecki | VP External
Karine is a first-year MASc student at the University of Guelph in Biological Engineering, after recently completing her BEng in Biological Engineering at Guelph. It is Karine’s first year getting involved with SEDS Canada and she could not be more excited to be the new VP External. She hopes to improve communication between SEDS Canada and current partners while fostering new partnerships as well. Her research interests focus on plant science, food process modeling, and creation of novel food products that could ultimately be used in aerospace missions and/or extraterrestrial cultivation.
|Erin Gibbons | VP Internal
Erin is currently living her dream of working on a Mars exploration mission as a student science collaborator with NASA’s Mars Science Laboratory rover, Curiosity. Her research focuses on tracing the physical and chemical evolution of water in the Solar System through the analysis of sedimentary rocks and minerals.
|Curtis Brown| VP Finance
Curtis completed his BSc Honors in astrophysics at the University of Alberta in 2016. He is currently pursuing a second undergraduate degree, this time at the University of Toronto where he studies mechanical engineering. Curtis possesses a passion for physics and engineering as they apply to space science. He hopes to one day work in the commercial space industry.
|Hira Nadeem | Events Chair
Hira Nadeem is a fourth-year electrical engineering student at McMaster University. She is passionate about exploring the cosmos and inspiring youth to grow Canada’s space sector. She dreams to send something beyond our atmosphere someday.
|Kristen Cote| Projects Chair
Kristen holds a BSc (Hons.) in Astrophysics from the University of Alberta, an MSc in Earth and Space Science from York University, and is starting her PhD in Physics at the University of Toronto. Having been involved with many life-changing student projects—like the Ex Alta-1 cube satellite—she is excited to further opportunities for student involvement in Canada’s space industry as the Projects Chair.
|Ms. Potato| Director of Happiness
Ms. Potato loves to do tricks for treats. All around great cat, 10/10.
