Current position

As the Manager of Digital Communication and Graphic Design at the Canadian Space Agency (CSA), I oversee several teams dedicated to social media, multimedia, graphic design, and client service. My role often involves collaborating with creative professionals who are passionate about space, blending their unique backgrounds with my expertise in digital communication and graphic design.

Timeline

  • During my high school years, I was really into arts and started an improv club at my school (still operating today), however, I always had a passion for science in the back of my mind.
  • I attended CEGEP to study theatre.
  • I pursued a degree in Communications and in the field of public relations.
  • For my first FSWEP (Federal Student Work Experience Program) internship, I worked on communications for the RCMP (Royal Canadian Mounted Police) regarding counterfeiting and money laundering. I realized that public communication could involve working on diverse projects with people from various backgrounds.
  • For my second FSWEP internship, I worked on communication for the Department of National Defence. This time, it was a military project that focused on shipping vehicles to Afghanistan.
  • I graduated and majored in Public Relations and Communication.
  • After graduation, I was offered a full-time position at my last internship with the Department of National Defence.
  • In 2015, I accepted a job as a junior social media officer at the CSA. The Canadian Space Agency has always been a place where I wanted to work, so throughout my six years at DND, I applied three times to get a job. It took me perseverance, but it definitely paid off!
  • Over time, I worked my way up to become the Social Media Team Lead and eventually, in 2022, the Manager of Digital Communication and Graphic Design for the CSA.

Advice

Never stop learning, and keep challenging yourself!

It’s perfectly okay if you don’t have a clear path in mind for your future. Looking back, I would have never thought that I could transition from the world of improv to educating people about counterfeiting, and then ultimately find my passion in the space industry. Initially, I was a bit fearful of not knowing enough, but I quickly realized that I was excited to learn and challenge myself in new domains. Through this process, I was able to discover my strengths and capabilities. Learning to be confident in my ability to learn and adapt to new situations was a game-changer for me. My advice to you is to stay open-minded, embrace new experiences, and listen to your passions. When you are passionate about what you are studying, it will reflect in your work and propel you forward. Create a network and search for people who are in the world you want to be in. It helps fuels your passion.
